The Care and Keeping of Skin After Permanent Hair Removal

Wednesday, August 29th, 2012

You have just come from your latest electrolysis session and you are thrilled with the results. What to do next? We have already discussed client satisfaction with electrolysis and the effectiveness of electrolysis as a permanent hair removal solution, but maintenance of facial skin should not stop there. Now that you love the way your face looks, why not take better care of it? SkinCeuticals, a dermatologist-approved skincare line, has great products for women and men who want to target signs of aging and prevent future damage.

Because Hairless NYC Clinic believes in SkinCeuticals’ message and because we want our customers to further the results afforded by electrolysis, we would like to share our favorite products.

Daily Sun Defense SPF 20 and up

It’s no secret that sunscreen is an important building block of preventative skin care. While your garden variety drugstore brand sunscreen will get the job done while you’re lounging by the pool, it’s unlikely the formula is lightweight enough for everyday use, underneath your makeup, like SkinCeuticals’ broad spectrum, oil and fragrance free formula. This sunscreen is gentle enough you will forget you have it on, but strong enough to combat UVA/UVB rays.

Correct Eye Balm

If you are a man or woman of a certain age you are probably already incorporating anti-wrinkle eye treatment into your daily skincare regimen, but if you are in your 20s or 30s you may not realize how important eye skincare is for taking preventative measures against aging. Tapping this rich emollient cream around your under eye and orbital area will work to fight these three signs of aging:

  1. Moisture loss
  2. Collagen breakdown
  3. Free radical damage

Emollience

This nourishing extra-strength moisturizer is ideal for high altitudes and cold, dry climates. Perfect for ski season and the cold winter months which may be a bit far away, but it never hurts to start planning ahead! Best of all, this formula is made from all natural extracts and oils.

These are products we wholeheartedly believe in at Hairless NYC Clinic and they are available for sale at the front desk of our office.

Electrolysis is, as always, the best permanent hair removal solution there is, and the outcome warrants skincare that leaves your face looking its youthful best.

April IS Electrolysis Awareness Month

Tuesday, April 17th, 2012

Spring! Spring! Spring puts a smile on everyone’s face. With longer days, nature comes to life again and, so do we! We take away our winter coats for spring colors and fewer layers. Our attitude lights up – so does our make up or a new hairdo.

April IS Electrolysis Awareness Month www.electrolysisnyea.org www.electrology.com , do not let unwanted hairs get in the way of your spring makeover – your beauty regiment. It is very easy to take a short cut without giving it a thought – out of sight, out of mind: “away with those hairs, let me tweeze them” or “my hairs grow very fast.” Consequences are results of our actions, pulling the hairs is NOT a wise choice http://bit.ly/HO69Zm

Besides, electrolysis is the permanent choice, cutting/shaving is a safe alternative, so is bleaching and depilatory creams.

Vaniqua is an enzyme inhibitor used topically to slow the growth of unwanted facial hair on women, especially on the face and under the chin. It does not remove hair or cause the hair to fall out but may make the hair finer and lighter. Your physician or electrologist may guide you to this option, all while having electrolysis treatment.

As we open up our mind to this metamorphosis season the skin radiates: http://bit.ly/IRiOqL showing defined eyebrows, engage forehead with smooth sideburns. Soon, summer heat waves will call for beach parties and bare legs :http://ow.ly/afp5g

Beauty Quest

Monday, March 14th, 2011

Speaking of beauty, there was many activities at the Beauty and Spa Show last week March 6, at the Jacob Javits Center in New York City. It was a scene. All there is to know about trend, staying healthy – slim and young. Remedies for every need; organic potion to induce sleep, capsules to stop hair loss and, to sun tan faster, to reduce, and restore, to protect with wonderful omega 3 and omega 6 fatty acids. So much to see, so much to interact with – a remarkable experience, that I love to go to, once a year.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder – starting with our inner self.  Exercising, whole food, a good mantra – positive thinking, healthy choices in life, is part of our unique make up. Then, the reflection of contentment, well-being (being-well) will translate in one’s skin, as of beauty and grace.

  • Skin care products comes to us in great choices and forms: cream, gel, scrub, spray, but do we really ask in-depth, question about their role, ingredients, and intend to the health of the skin, to clean, protect, tone or correct. Science evolves constantly – good relationship with your professionals is vital today, to stay attuned with the latest.
  • Mineral formulation make up made of all natural products. While providing natural glow and light with their application techniques, some dermatologists find them to be helpful to acne prone skin. Their ingredients for others might be too drying and irritating. There is not one formula for all.
  • Fibroblasts stimulation in a cream, to help continued the production of collagen and elastin.
  • Vitamins are part of our daily life, as supplement to our nutrition, in our skin care products (vita B, lutein, fatty acid, ascorbic acid, beta-carotene, zinc)
  • Radio frequency, radio wave, to enhance the visage and body contour, stimulate the collagen process and tighten the skin for younger definition.

  • Beauty Sleep = Sleeping Beauty!

Aromatherapy–The art of Essentials Oils

Monday, June 28th, 2010

The potential of essentials oils are Nature’s most powerful substances. The essences of aromatique plants are complex, concentrate and very powerful liquids—and so, undeniably effective. Having said that, any active substances, even as natural as essentials oils, could also become toxic when consumed without any respect to their regular use.

Historically, aromatique plants have been used way back to the Australian’s  Aborigenes  by fumigation (smoke inhale from burning the plants) also compresses from argil mixt with medicinal plants. Chinese have used ginger and cinnamon for 5000 years. India bring us Ayurvedic medicine approach, with the energetic action of the aromatic plants, highly used today. Egypt used aromatique essences since 2800 BC in the process of mummification also in ingested medicine. From Greece to antique Rome, Hippocrates (father of occidental medicine) to Galien has given us their aromatic knowledge, through many manuscripts of the era.

Criteria of strict quality most guide the purchase of essentials oils; 1) The botanical certification. 2) Geographical origin. 3) The culture ( organically grown ). 4) The mode of extraction, are some of the components providing the best results of obtaining precise, particular molecules found specifically in essentials oils.

Synergy is provide, by the precise blend of essentials oils ( Nature’s pearls ) enhanced to superior vs. the action of one.

What is acne?

Tuesday, May 25th, 2010

A chronic inflammatory condition of the pilosebaceous unit appearing commonly on the face, back, and chest. Acne may occur as merely inflamed ( as a papule or nodule ) or it may be pustular. In severe cases the lesions are accompanied by cysts ( a sac with acne begins with the blockade of the follicular canal ( blackheads ) and develops through the subsequent leakage of sebum into the dermis. This has an irritating effect, causing an inflammatory reaction and the development of a red papule. Inflammation often leads to the production of pus which forms a pustule or “pimple”.  Acne is fundamentally an inflammatory reaction to the presence of sebum as a foreign substance in the dermis. Bacteria may, at a larger stage, cause infection.

For reasons no one completely understands, follicles, often called pores, sometimes get blocked. Sebum (oil) which normally drains to the surface gets blocked and bacteria begin to grow. Both whiteheads and blackheads start out as a microcomedone

Acne, like comedone is most prevalent during adolescence, when heightened androgenic activity stimulates sebaceous excretion. People with oily skins usually have the worse problems. Diet is not a cause, but for many people certain foods, particularly chocolate, can worsen an acne condition. Mental stress can also aggravate acne. In girls there is usually an increase in acne prior the menstruation.

Even though, not associate with hair follicle, removal of unwanted hairs in an acne prone area will definitely clear the skin condition by simply drying the hair follicle’s  region therefore improving significantly  the skin texture.
